Royal Grammar School Guildford celebrates Y12 Graduation ceremony

We are immensely proud that the first ever cohort of graduating students from the Royal Grammar School Guildford in Qatar, were able to enjoy a magnificent Graduation ceremony at The Ritz Carlton on Tuesday 6th June. The event was very well attended by proud parents, students and a number of distinguished guests. The graduating students have successfully completed their International AS levels and are now ready to embark on the next chapter of their lives.

We were honoured that Mr Hamad owner of Al Qamra Holding, Ms. Kareema Alyousef from the MOEHE and the Principal Mr Sherlock shared their words of wisdom and advice to support our graduating students as they move onto the next chapter of their lives. Mr. Hamad Al Qamra mentioned that having chosen to partner with the Royal Grammar School Guildford in 2016, he was very proud of this first ever graduating class and praised their determination to succeed. This was echoed by a special message from the Headmaster of the Royal Grammar School in Guildford, UK, Dr John Cox who also spoke of how far the school had come and how delighted he was to hear of the student’s achievements over the past few years. The Principal Mr. Paul Sherlock encouraged the graduating students to ‘ go forth into the world taking with them the RGS values, of respect, scholarship, courage, inclusivity, collaboration and integrity’. He also stated that the ‘RGS doors are always open’ reflecting that the RGSGQ is like a family, although the students will travel far and do great things, they will always be welcomed back at any time. Along with the valedictorian and student speaker, the principal thanked the unwavering support of the parents, without whom the students and the school would not have succeeded and achieved as much as they have in these past few years. The special guest of honour Ms Kareema encouraged students to follow their dreams and pursue something they love, that would help to develop their skills so that in turn they could achieve excellence for themselves and the State of Qatar. Following the inspirational speeches, students were individually recognised for their hard work, dedication and resilience over what have been a tough few years of their education. They were also praised for their leadership, teamwork and involvement in life at RGS, including their extracurricular pursuits. The event concluded with some special awards presented by Mr. Hamad al Qamra, for Outstanding Achievement, the award was presented to Taimour Alshuli. The Principal’s Award was presented to Lana Kofahi and the Year 12 AS Achievement Award was given to Mohammed Al Kaabi. Many of the graduating cohorts have secured University places and sponsorship from large organisations such as Qatar Energy. The evening concluded with joyous applause as the first cohort threw their caps in the air and celebrated completing their 12 years of education. We wish the Graduating Class of 2023 every success in the future and are certain they will continue to make the RGS family proud.
